February Commodore's Corner

This will be the last Commodore's Corner that I write. I will be switching to the Commodores blog! Instead of me writing about important and exciting things, I would like to better understand what you are thinking and provide an alternative option for you to provide your input. Look for the Commodores blog on KCYC.org.

It has been a busy month for the KCYC family. Our 2020 kick off cruise to Edmonds, The Polar Bear Cruise, was a huge success! This is an important event for the fleet as the proceeds from the meal are a major fund raiser for the entire 2020 cruse activities. Raffel funds at this event make a substantial contribution to the general fund as well. Thanks again to Jim Simpson, Todd Lachelt and Jovita Lachelt for a fabulous prime rib feast.  A special note to all of the volunteers that made such a wonderful team with the Port of Kingston and the Ale House. Together, a new high bar was set for The Community Meal at the Village Green. The food, service, and organization helped to serve a record number of people.

Members, thank you for your involvement with our new website! We have around 60 members that are regulars on the site. If anyone needs help on the site, please feel free to reach out for assistance. We are constantly working to improve the content and communications to keep the site current and relevant. Watch for upcoming changes that will provide a greater 2 way interaction with the activities of the club.

At the January General Meeting the membership approved the KCYC budget and the 3 year strategic plan. We have targeted membership growth to achieve 175 members, fully funded our contingency funds, and established a solid foundation for the coming year’s activities.
Through the volunteering of members to our various committees, the work of the club gets organized and completed. Several of the committees are well underway. To highlight just a few:
•  Our Membership Committee, led by Steve Young, has launched activities and more to come. Be sure to bring your badge anytime you are at the club. If you forget, a on the spot sticker with your name will be provided. We want everyone to know your name!
•  Our Social Committee, led by Shelley and John Gantz, have established an initial calendar of events for the year and are making great strides in establishing an organized approach to many fun events.
•  Our 2020 Facilities Committee, led by Art Hammon, has held their initial meeting. This team will be developing a design document to socialize with all members. This will become the focus for any and all improvement we make to our current facility.

As always, please reach out at any time to provide a helping hand. The volunteering is always greatly appreciated.

Our guest speaker for the February meeting will be David Fyfe, David will be providing an update on crabbing in the local area. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet and interact with David.
