Update on Cancellation of Activities

Published on 3/18/2020

Commodore’s Update

The KCYC Board held its regularly scheduled meeting on March 17th, which included our financials, director reports, and club administration. Beyond the normal course of business we focused on what is next given the evolving guidelines to deal with the pandemic. Earlier in March the Board made a decision to cancel all of the March activities with the exception of the Poulsbo Cruise, which at the time was within the recommended guidelines.  Given the latest restrictions handed down by the many government agencies, we have made additional cuts to the club's activities:

March 21 -22 - Poulsbo Cruise and Chowder Feed – Cancelled
Apr 3 – Friday Night Social – Gourmet Sandwich Bar - Cancelled
Apr 10 – Friday Night Bar - Cancelled
Apr 16 - KCYC General Meeting - Cancelled
Apr 17 – Friday Night Bar - Cancelled

Apr 17-19 – Everett Cruise - Cancelled
Apr 24 – Friday Night Bar - Cancelled
April 26 – Ladies Lunch - Cancelled

In addition, the Seattle Yacht Club has cancelled its opening day parade for the 2020 boating season. Accordingly, KCYC will not be decorating a boat for this event.

The Board will continue to monitor the situation, and make future recommendations, all with the goal of getting our club back to normal operations as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.

In spite of these decisions, I want you to know KCYC is alive, well and very active.
If you aren’t aware, much of the club work happens in small gatherings, committees and individual efforts. We are continuing to assess ways to help and engage the membership in multiple work streams. They are:

  • What club projects / work can be accomplished during this time?—i.e. Ongoing planning and business, facility maintenance, facility improvement projects.
  • How can we help our fellow members during this time?—i.e. Recently a new member, Debby Tyler, has offered remote computer support to members.
  • How can we help our community during this time?—i.e. Ensure we follow guidelines, provide delivery assistance to those in need.
  • How can we help the local businesses during this time?—i.e. Buy from them – take out/gift certificates.

If you would like to help, please join us by contributing your ideas and effort.  Feel free to call or email any board member with your input and ideas.

We will continue to update you with our thoughts and insights as we look forward to your participation.
