The needs of our small community are great this holiday season and KCYC members dug deep to help meet those needs. I want to extend my personal thanks and those of the Board to all those that contributed and enabled KCYC to make a significant contribution to our Kingston Community.

ShareNet supplies 50-60 food boxes each week to local families in addition to many other clients needing assistance. A volunteer subcommittee of the Community Engagement Committee led by Rita Osborn came up with the idea to provide Christmas Celebration Food Boxes for 20 families of 4-6 people. Rita, Gloria Young and Nancy Martin planned, shopped and packed the 20 brightly decorated food boxes and Christmas bags filled with turkeys, stuffing, veggies, pies and all the trimmings, including candy canes and popcorn. In addition, we provided ShareNet with a cash donation totaling $3000 including a significant donation from the team at Tarp Innovators owned by Kim and Rick Wood. The total value of the donation to ShareNet was $4000 and over 30 members contributed to the effort.

Although we have always given food, stockings, and turkeys at this time of the year to the Kingston Food Bank, thanks to our members we donated not only food, but were also able to provide them with a cash donation of $645. This is in addition to our earlier donation of $1500 in July for a total contribution to the Kingston Food Bank of over $2100.

COVID has significantly curtailed the club’s ability to have “fun” events and be the place where everyone knows your name, but it has enhanced our feelings of responsibility to engage with our community to help Kingston when it means the most. My heart-felt gratitude to all!
