Subject: RBAW Report—Changes in Montlake Bridge Openings
From: Kingston Cove Yacht Club

Email header 3

In March of this year, RBAW uncovered a proposed plan to limit Montlake Bridge openings to only TWICE DAILY during August, vs the normal process. We felt this limitation could have significant safety and operational impacts to summer recreational boating and jumped into action with WSDOT to negotiate an alternate opening plan to better accommodate boaters – while ensuring bridge construction could continue.

A big THANK YOU to the Yacht Clubs that leaned in and worked with RBAW and WSDOT to address concerns and improve the Montlake Cut bridge opening process for boaters – we were also able to replace the old and faded signage, add electronic signage communicating which span will be opening and get the tree’s trimmed so boaters can see the signs!!

Please read the important information below.

Montalke Bridge Opening Changes
From 8/9 through 9/2, there will only be SINGLE SPAN OPENINGS of the Montlake Bridge (without 24 hours prior scheduling). With the SINGLE SPAN OPENING, more boats may que up and smaller boats will need to be aware of different large boat behaviors and not pass boats that are maneuvering in a limited width area.

June 2021 Report - from RBAW State Lobbyist Doug Levy
A busy month of May ended with a spectacular splash of sunshine, both weather-wise and for all of us at RBAW – as the Lakebay Marina acquisition became signed, sealed, and official. It was the highlight of a month where we saw smooth sailing on some issues, bumpiness on others. To read about what is happening, click here: June 2021 Report
