KCYC and THE FOOD PROJECT: A New Twist on the Traditional Food Drive
On any given day, a significant portion of the food ShareNet distributes must be purchased—often not from wholesalers, but on the open market at steep, inflation-driven prices. The landscape for food banks is shifting: once reliable sources of surplus and aftermarket food have dwindled, changed, or disappeared altogether. To meet this challenge, ShareNet has embraced a new national food sourcing model called "The FOOD Project"—a fresh take on the traditional food drive. At the heart of this model are Neighborhood Coordinators (NCs). These volunteers distribute reusable green bags and curated wish lists to their group of donors, along with reminders for the next scheduled donation day. These donation days occur on set Saturdays, every other month.
KCYC has a proud legacy of supporting our community, and this is a simple, effective way to continue that tradition. To get this started, we will be collecting donations at the November general meeting, as well as distributing green bags for members to fill. Sandi Dalgleish and Robin Lott will be coordinating this effort for KCYC. We will be delivering the food we collect to ShareNet. We plan to have green bags and wish lists available with distribution at every General Meeting. Given that we do not have a meeting in December to distribute the bags, we will be collecting items from the list below at this month's meeting, November 20th. We’re counting on the same generous spirit and robust participation that KCYC has shown in years past.
Together, we can help ShareNet meet rising needs with a model that’s sustainable, personal, and impactful. In addition to food donations, we will be collecting cash donations which will be used to purchase food. If you cannot attend the meeting but wish to donate, please contact one of the coordinators listed below.
Thanks for your generosity. If you have any questions, please contact Sandi Dalgleish at dalgleish@comcast.net or Robin Lott at robinlott01@gmail.com. |
