Port Townsend was once a bustling seaport teeming with sailors and immigrants and dotted with mercantiles, saloons, hotels, and brothels. Dive into the intriguing history of the town's earlier years, anchored around popular stories of lore, each paired with historical investigation illuminating how we know what we know – and what may always remain a mystery. This fun and analytical tour through the picturesque, historic downtown district is led by the local historical society and draws from some of the more infamous, mysterious, and tawdry stories of the town's colorful history.
Maximum capacity per tour is 15 People. If there are more than 15 people interested in the tour
we can schedule a second tour.
Things to Know:
- The tour will start outside of the JCHS Museum of Art & History (located at 540 Water St. in downtown Port Townsend).
- The tour will be approximately 0.7 miles of walking/standing throughout the downtown historic district; it is mostly flat terrain and is ADA accessible.
- At approximately half the tour stops there is public seating, but please note it is first-come, first-served.
- This tour includes waived same-day admission to the Museum of Art + History (open 11am to 4pm).
- Simply let the front desk staff know that you are on the June 20th private tour.
The tour will be completely outdoors, so please plan to:
- wear comfortable shoes
- bring layers – the weather in Port Townsend can change quickly!
- bring a hat for sunny days
- bring rain gear for rainy days days
- feel free to bring a water bottle and/or camera; you’ll be welcome to photograph the stops on our tour (please no video).
