VICE  COMMODORE REPORT

Happy Holidays KCYC!

The clubhouse keeps getting better and better through the efforts its members. The club now has a glass washer in the bar and a new bar sink which will make the workload easier to handle and more efficient. Special thanks to Shelley Gantz, Chuck Turner and Lon Hayne for initiating the project and the incredible install team of Ken Dalgleish, Mike Reed, Steve Young, Mike Wilson and Rob Nyholm!  Also, special thanks to Mark Ryan for installing a Motion Activated Spotlight to the front entrance of the clubhouse.

Projects in the works currently are a programmable thermostat to control the baseboard heaters, and a sound dampening plan to reduce the noise level in the club.

The KCYC Facilities Committee is quickly forming and will be meeting this month to put together solid plans for these projects. If you would like to be a part email the Vice Commodore. Thanks to Ken Dalgleish, Steve Young and Mark Allyn for volunteering to be a part of this committee.

REAR COMMODORE REPORT

TREASURER REPORT

Ahoy KCYC! As I write this we are almost through the holiday season, a month or so of many great parties, get togethers, and celebrating our club and friends. As you may know, the bar has significant upgrades, including a new sink (and plumbing) as well as an absolutely fantastic glass washer. Many thanks to all that were involved, especially Ken Dalgleish and Steve Young, without whom we might be reduced to having last call out of Dixie Cups!

Have the best Holiday and may the rest of this year be the best yet.
Lon Hayne, Rear Commodore

Welp, don't look now but winter came in early. November didn't nearly hit the budget. Revenues were off and so were expenses but not so much. This is kind of the result of adding fewer members than the budget had, and a little bit of "snowbird effect." People paying dues but heading out of town.

Good news? Cash is good, reserve funds are chockablock, and a new year and a new budget will be here soon.  John Gantz, Treasurer

FLEET REPORT

Christmas Boats and Port Christmas 2024 2
  • We had 10 boats participate in the Christmas boat decorating at the Port of Kingston guest dock on December 7. A BIG THANK YOU to Connie Castellano and Lori Barett for stepping up at the 11th hour to put together the ballots and first place prize!! Here are the results:
First Place: Pyxis (55 votes) - Kirsten and John Jewell
Second Place: Summer Camp (22 votes) - Jennie Tucker and Jimmy DiIanni
Third Place: Sativa (13 votes) - Janiece Christian and Bob Doyle
  • The 2025 cruise events have been posted on the KCYC calendar. It is going to be a great year for cruising. It is not too early to volunteer as a cruise captain for one of the cruises.  Registration for the Polar Bear Cruise and dinner will be posted at the end of December. Once it is posted, please register so that we can get an accurate attendance count and dinner preferences
for either prime rib or salmon.
    Cheers –JD

PORT  WATCH
One Member's Opinion

port-of-kingston.png

Welcome to the Port Watch, my monthly article highlighting issues and activities at the Port. As your new Trustee assigned to monitor the Port and report back on things that may be important to our members, I’ve attended this past series of workshops and monthly meetings. Questions: contact Jack Lott, jlott@shuttlesmart.net

Although most of what was discussed is focused on administrative tasks, a couple of things that you should know:

  • The new restroom construction. 4 bids were received and all 4 were more than double the estimated cost, so the Port rejected all 4. The highest bid cost almost $1000 per square foot for construction, which is crazy, and note that the work you have seen done in preparation isn’t included in that figure. Once bids were let, and rejected for appropriate reasons, the Port now has the opportunity to negotiate with firms to see they can get the cost down. That is underway now.
  • Speaking of the current work we’ve all seen. The ground work done was to relocate fuel pipe lines and waist water run off so that when the new restroom is built, it won’t sit on top of any piping that might need accessed in the future. It should also be noted that the exiting piping before this work was done was out of compliance with current code, so fixing it now was a smart move.
  • The last thing to report is where is the new restroom actually going to be located. The site plan was not presented at the meeting, but it was reported that only ONE permit parking stall will be lost when all is done. That is good news for all of us.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Happy Holidays to all. On behalf of the KCYC - CEC committee we want to thank all KCYC members for supporting the local charities. Thanks to you...

  • Neighbors will have food on their table as KCYC members donated $1324.00 to ShareNet. (Thank you, Rob Salthouse, for organizing)
  • 60 little kids will have a special gift under the tree. (Thank you, Kathy Showman, for organizing)
  • Special thanks to Simona Dedek for helping ensure all 60 tags were taken. We would hate to leave a little kid behind.
  • One little girl got an early Christmas present...she needed shoes desperately so a kind member bought a pair of sneakers and rainboots for her little (now big) feet and dropped them off to the Boys & Girls Club so she could wear them now.
  • And thanks to a the KCYC members who adopted 3 different families. These families will have a wonderful Christmas thanks to your generosity.

As you can see the Port of Kingston is lit. Thanks to Adela Lucas and Kathy Showman for passing out cookies, and to Dave Lucas, Adam Doremire and Steve Young for keeping everyone warm with the firepits.

Thank you for your support! The next Community Engagement event will be the Community Dinner at Village Green date to be determined. We will let you know as we will need volunteers...any chefs in the house that would want to lead the cooking, if so, let us know. Village Green will give us a budget and menu ideas.

Happy Holidays from KCYC - CEC Committee members Rob and Robin Salthouse, Kathy Showman, Mark Derricott and Cheryl Callais.

MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The Membership Committee focuses on planning for the coming year and recruiting new members. In November the Membership Committee sponsored a successful Ladies Game Night at the Club; another one was held in December.  Participants brought a favorite game, an appetizer or snack , and their beverage of choice. In the future we will encourage members to invite a friend to join in the fun.

In January, Ladies Game NIght will be on January 8th.  We hope you (ladies) will all attend.

If you are interested in joining the Membership Committee contact Diane Nunez at 206-714-9293.
