COMMODORE'S CORNER

Hello, KCYC…

Here I sit in the pilot house of Better Together with my morning coffee, watching the sun come up while writing you my last Commodore’s Corner. I feel like this year has gone by so fast. It seems we just started and now we are at the end. It has been a great privilege to serve as your Commodore this past year, and I am looking forward to serving as your Past Commodore next year. I would like to say thank you to the Board for all their hard work this year. They have put in countless hours behind the scenes to keep us moving forward. Please take the time to thank them for doing an outstanding job! I would also like to thank the members for supporting the club with your volunteer time, helping host , plan, set up, and clean up events. It takes community to make KCYC what it is, and in the end, YOU make the club what it is. Again…Thank You. I would like to thank one more person-my wife, Cheryl. Cheryl, you have stood by me, supported me, believed in me, and encouraged me. You have made my dream of finishing what I started all those years ago come true. I love you and thank you.

Now that the sappy part is out of the way, we still have some magnificent events coming up this month:

The next cruise will be to Everett on October 13th-15th. Cheryl and I will be coming by land, as our boat needs to go into the yard, so just remember…If you can’t go by boat, you can still go. We hope to see you there.

The Board Meeting is on Tuesday night, October 17th, at 6:00.

The General Meeting is on Thursday night, October 19th, at 6:00. This will include the Change of Watch ceremony. Come and help us welcome the 2023-2024 Board.

The Commodore’s Ball is on Saturday night, October 21st, at 6:00. This is always a great celebration!

I encourage you to sign up for an event or just stop by on a Friday night to share a story. You can catch up with old friends and make new friends as you meet our newest members (28 this year).

As always, Cheryl and I look forward to seeing you around the club and on the dock. Please come and join in the fun.

FLEET REPORT

Final Cruise for the Season

Everett Cruise

Everett 10/13-15 ~ We will be at their new guest dock in the central basin. Plenty of room along this lateral dock new building with restrooms & showers. This marina claims to be the largest in the Northwest.  A nice and affordable hotel is next to the guest dock. Also, several food and libation establishments are close by. Watch for more details by email to come soon.  This is our last planned cruise for the season.

VICE  COMMODORE REPORT

As this year’s Board is preparing to change I would like to thank all of you who helped me fulfill my duties as Vice Commodore this year.

I couldn’t have done it without the help of Ken and Sandi Dalgleish, Bob Britton and Lynn Colton, Karl Compton, Gloria and Steve Young, Vivi-Ann and Bill Parnell, Kim Clark, Simona Dedek, Julie Turner, Colleen Carey, Jamie Hunter, Rick Eveleth, and Art and Cheryl Hammon, and all the Board members.

If I forgot anyone please know that your are thanked as well.  It has been a good year, and thank you to all members, who, through their volunteerism, made the year fun and memorable.

REAR COMMODORE REPORT

Nathan_Gray_Cabernet.jpeg
Greetings KCYC Members,

It been a fun journey as your Rear Commodore and Bar Manager.   This is my last report as we transition to the new board in October.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who have stepped up this past year helping out in so many ways.  Very much appreciated and let’s keep this momentum going for the new Rear Commodore Shelly Gantz.

Between the wine tasting event at the club and the whiskey tasting event at the Marina Tent, there were lots of opportunities this past month to try out new beverages.   The Nathan Gray Cabernet Sauvignon got positive reviews from the wine tasting.  I just purchased a couple of cases and we will be giving it a try at the bar replacing the Monte’s Cab currently served.  Give it a try and let us know what you think.

The new Terlato’s Pinot Grigio has been so well received it has surpassed Butter Chardonnay as our #1 selling white wine.

New member Kathy Butterly has jumped right into volunteerism completing the on-line MAST License course and adding her name to the bar volunteer resource pool.  Thanks Kathy!

Business at the bar continues to be strong and we are ahead of our financial goals for the year.  Thank you all very much for your patronage and lets all work to support Shelley and make term as Rear Commodore a success.
